Meet Savannah Belsher-MacLean. Savannah is an entrepreneur extraordinaire here on PEI. She currently is an incredible makeup artist at Pro MUA and designer of some of the most stunning jewelry you have ever seen with her company Swoon Creations. If that isn't enough she also owns and operates Daidala Market which she has carefully curated antiques and artisan goods. This fabulous store is located in beautiful Murray River, PEI.
I have been lucky enough to know Savannah for a few years, and was beyond excited for her to try Lou La Belle products and absolutely delighted that she let me pick her brain for our first Meet A Belle post.
What is your morning and night beauty routines?
My morning routine is the easy part: splash some water on my face and pat dry, pat on some Lou La Belle Glow, apply a couple of dabs of Caudalie Polyphenol eye cream, then it's makeup time (unless I'm home all day, then it's a makeup-free day!). As a teen, I used to be really bad for sleeping with my makeup on (turns out this is a big no-no, as our mothers tell us!), so now I get into my washing routine as soon as I am home after meetings/work/etc in case I get lazy later in the evening. My evening beauty routine is something like this: I use Marcelle Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover Lotion and rinse with warm water. I steam my face and neck with an almost-too-hot facecloth for 1 minute or so, gently massage in a quarter-size amount of Lou La Belle Eliven, then steam my face for another minute and pat away any excess oil. I then apply Lou La Belle Glow and the Caudalie Polyphenol eye cream, and - if I'm having a hormonal acne time - I'll dab some La Roche Posay Redermic cream as a spot treatment.
What does beauty mean to you?
As a makeup artist, I'm often asked this...and perhaps people are disappointed when they learn my idea of beauty does not come in a lipstick, blush or brow shape. Beauty - to me - is much more about a positive outlook and kindness. When someone is kind to others and positive about the world, their eyes sparkle and their skin glows.
What is your favourite healthy habit?
Taking the long way home. I find it so relaxing and almost meditative to browse around neighborhoods and exploring roads I've never gone down before.
Favourite food: healthy & treat?
I'm obsessed with avocados! My husband and I will spit one at almost every dinner time as an appetizer - just sliced in half, add a bit of olive oil and a pinch of salt, and scoop it out with a spoon! (Also tasty with feta cheese and balsamic vinegar. Yum!). I also drink a ridiculous amount of mineral water with fresh lemon or lime juice added in.
Favourite guilty pleasure?
Tiny candies like Skittles, Smarties, or Junior Mints - anything that I can have in a dish on my desk and pick at while working.
What is the best piece of beauty advice you have ever received?
Don't go to bed with your makeup on.
Best makeup trick?
Use powder to fill in eyebrows instead of a pencil - it looks softer and more natural, and will have enough 'polish' to finish off your whole makeup look. Also, a new lipstick or gloss colour is a fast fix when you're bored of your makeup look.
If you could tell your 15 year old self something about beauty, what would you say?
Those sunburns are nothing to brag/complain about - wear sunscreen and a hat next time! And wash your face before bed.
What do you do to stay green?
My husband and I do a lot of little things to make our household as sustainable as possible - carpooling whenever we can; use cloth bags for groceries, conserve water (yay, shower buddies!), and lights off when we leave the room. Shopping local is also a great and easy way to stay green!
Favourite thing to do for self care?
My three favourites are snuggling with my kitties, stealing away for a nap whenever I can, and enjoying a good cup of coffee or tea.
Favourite way to #livelikeabelle
If the weather is nice, bring those wildflowers indoors in a vase! If it's winter, I treat myself to some time with a home decor magazine or candlelight.
