1) Not Taking Off Your Makeup
When people ask me what the number 1 thing they can do to have better skin is, I always answer with the same thing; take off your makeup before you go to bed. Seriously you guys this is so important. Sleeping with your makeup on will clog your pores, cause acne flare-ups, and put you at possible risk of eye infections. I know mascara can be a pain to take off, but sleeping with it on can lead to your eyelashes being dry and brittle.
2) Wearing Makeup 100% of the Time
Your skin needs to breathe. Caking your face with makeup every single day is just not good for you. Especially if you are using makeup that has ingredients such as parabens, parfum, petroleum, Sodium laureth sulfate, and Triclosan. A great guide to what makeup brands are cleaner is the The Environmental Working Group's list. Taking a little break from wearing heavier makeup such as foundation and concealer can actually lead to your skin tone looking brighter.
3)Not Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes
One word: bacteria. Just take a few minutes and clean those brushes. You won't regret it. A simple way to clean your brushes is to lightly lather them with some natural shampoo. Rise off with water and lay your brushes flat to dry.
4) Using Expired Products
Yes, makeup expires Belles. By using products past the expiration date you are hurting your skin. Expired products can have bacteria and go rancid which your skin can have a bad reaction to. Let me tell you, that isn't good. Women's Health Mag has a great little guide for expired makeup:
Mascara: 3 Months
Eye makeup: 6-12 Months
Foundation & Concealer: 12 Months
Lip stick: 18 Months
5)Not Drinking Enough Water
You have heard it before and you will hear it again. If you want good skin, drinks lots of water. Being dehydrated can cause skin to look dull. Properly hydrating your body will make you healthier, and as a bonus help with your complexion.
Changing a few simple things in your life can have such a huge impact on your skin health.
