Dear 15-year-old me,
I want you to know that right now life is hard, but things will change. You are going through a difficult season and it seems as though it won’t end. Lifelong friendships have ended, your best friend goes to a school way too far away, a relationship you should never have been in is ending and you think it’s all your fault because you aren’t good enough, you’re mad about your parents divorce, you feel like you need to change to have good friends, to be loved, to be seen. It’s hard.
But, things will change.
You will become best friends with two amazing women who will stay in your life forever, you will see them have babies, buy homes and succeed in their careers. They will hug you when you go through loss, stand with you at your wedding, make you laugh at ridiculous gifs, introduce you to other great women and be a constant source of encouragement.
Your other best friend will move home after high school and you will stand through storms of all kinds with her. She will help you through painful moments, she will visit you when you move away, she will help you paint your first home, you will stand in each other's weddings and always be there for one another.
You will soon meet the man who will eventually become your husband. He is kind and funny, he treats you well and loves you. All of you. He tells you that your sensitivity is nothing to be ashamed of. He will find a way to make you laugh when all you can do is cry, he will dance with you with you in the kitchen, he will move all over Canada with you and follow all your crazy ideas. He will support your dream business and help you grow it. He will support you through the hardest things you ever have to go through. He is one in a million and you’re so lucky to have him as your partner for life.
That sweet man you marry will also get you the best dog in the entire world before you move into your first apartment. He will be your constant companion, your confidant, your best friend. He will teach you more about life and love in the short 8 years he was with you than you can imagine. Your bond will be undeniable and unbreakable. You will cherish the time you have with him more than anything. He will become one of the greatest loves of your life and stay that way forever.
You will become incredibly close to your Mom. She is everything. You don’t know it now, but you are so similar. She understands you more than you can ever know. She will drive 9 hours with you to get a rescue dog to help your broken heart after your sweet pup passes away. You will regret how your relationship used to be but will be so grateful for what it’s become.
You will build a business that you can feel proud of.
You will be content, happy, safe and loved.
You will go through really hard seasons.
You will go through incredible seasons.
2017 will be the absolute worst year of your life. It will be a year that you honestly won't know how you can make it through but because of all these amazing people in your life, you will get through it.
You will rescue animals, continue to grow, and create strong bonds with people who deserve the love and friendship you have to give.
You will come out of this hard season and have a better understanding of who you are. These hard times will help you I promise. What you are going through is going to lead you to have a better life.
You are stronger than the judgments people make now. The people who cause you worry and anxiety today won’t have a say in how you build your life.
You are so much smarter and stronger than you give yourself credit for.
It’s not going to all be perfect. You still struggle with anxiety about friendships. You still feel less than sometimes but you know how to pull yourself out of it and you don’t guilt yourself for the way you feel.
The girl you were at 15 helps you become the woman you are today and you will be proud of her.
