In a world filled with Kardashians, fitness models and pressures of social media, it’s easy to compare your own real life to other people’s online highlight reels. But guess what, it’s just that - a highlight reel.
From someone who is very active in the social media world, I can tell you from experience that most people rarely post about their struggles, their failures, their hardships and pitfalls on social media. And when they do, there is still a level of filtration in everything that is shared online.
When I was a teenager, before social media was even invented, I would compare myself to my friends and other girls around me. I hated my thick, wavy hair. I had a gap in my teeth and hated my laugh lines, so I avoided smiling. Sometimes I would even stick gum between my gap and pretended that I had perfectly straight teeth! I look back to these times and think to myself how silly this all sounds. I LOVE my thick, wavy hair, and I LOVE my smile and my laugh.
Comparison in any form is so silly! It’s pointless because no two people are the same. No two businesses are the same, and no two journeys are the same.
Nobody’s relationship, career, cooking, parenting styles or happiness is as good as it looks on their social media. Online content is controlled and is not a true depiction of what is actually going on in someone’s real life.
So to anyone who needs to hear this: please stop comparing your real life to other people’s online profile! It is not real! It’s a virtual reality where people document only the best angles, the best moments - and even those moments look better, prettier, and more enjoyable than they really are!
You are better than that and you are better than you think you are - on all levels of life!
You need to ignore what everyone else is doing. Life is about breaking your own limits, outgrowing yourself and living your best life - not someone else’s version of it. The only person you should be striving to outgrow is yourself and the person you were yesterday!
You have the power to be your own person, to have your own opinions and outlooks, to rock your own unique fashion style, to parent the way that works for you!
Be grateful for the life you have and everything in it. Be content with everything you have surrounding you because everything that is was meant to be and everything that is to come is meant for you.
You inspire people who pretend to not even see you, trust me.
